Seats

Most 3 wheel double buggies begin as single pushchairs. Some models can be converted to accommodate the second seat using adapters. There are also models will allow you to add a ride-on board to older children who would like to walk, but need some help.

Check out the Joie Evalite Duo for an ultra-lightweight option that is perfect for urban streets. It's easy to maneuver and comes with a large basket with lots of storage. It can accommodate twins from at birth and accepts two car seats, or a carrycot with a seat. The seats are required to be facing forwards, and there's not enough space to store a bag of groceries underneath and you'll need a backpack for this.

If you're looking to take off-road trips and off-road, the Mountain Buggy Duet is a good option. It's a side by side with the slimmest footprint of any double buggy available on the market. It's much easier to get through narrow doors on public transport, and to climb over and up kerbs. The adjustable handlebar comes with a handbrake for added safety and security.

Another option that is lightweight is the UPPAbaby Vista 2 Double it can be used to accommodate twins or a baby and toddler. The seats have a multi-position reclining with UPF 50plus sunshades. The canopy can be adjusted to ensure that the sun doesn't get into your child's eyes. The Vista 2 can be converted into an UPPAbaby triple by incorporating UPPAbaby's 'PiggyBack’ board for older children.

The iCandy Orange double buggies are among the most well-known available. This is due to their exceptional comfort. It's an all-terrain pushchair with soft suspension that makes light work of bumpy surfaces. It comes with 30 different seating configurations as well as a built-in table for older children who prefer to walk and a 'cinema mode that raises the back seat for better visibility.

Alternatively, the phil&teds dot is a fantastic single buggy from the beginning which is then able to take 2 (or 3!) different configurations. This is especially helpful when you have a child in your car. The frame can be fitted to a wedgie, which permits the most optimal lying-flat position. Also, car seat adapters that fit many brands.

Suspension

The suspension of a double 3 wheel buggy will determine how easily you and your child/children are able to push it. A smooth ride is crucial since babies can feel every bump on the road, especially when it's on rough terrain like grass or paths that aren't paved. Some models come with locking front tires that help maneuver and get over obstacles like curbs.

Some models use air-filled tyres which will give you a great all-terrain experience, but they can be prone to punctures, so make sure you have spares in the trunk. Other models use gel or foam tyres, which are designed to take the bumps and are less prone to punctures, however, you might feel a bit stiff and uncomfortable on your child's back if you decide to run.

MFM reviewer Kath put the Urban Glide 2 through its tests with her infant and three years old son, and found it coped really well on difficult terrains: "it navigated effortlessly over pavements that were bumpy and grassy cobbles, dirt tracks and cobbles with ease and was easy to maneuver around corners and go up and down kerbs. The 16" rear wheels, when combined with the lockable swivel wheels on the front, make it an extremely comfortable jogging experience. The Urban Glide 2 has a variety of features, like an enormous seat unit that comes with padded cover, hood with 50+ UV protection, and easy-to-use and rechargeable lights.

Folding

A 3 wheeled pushchairs-wheel double buggy folds quite easily to be stored. You can find options that fold flat and then stand up (as when they were in a pushchair) and also those that pop up to reveal more of an umbrella-like fold that has the option of a brake operated by hand. In general, the more wheels a buggy has, the easier it will be to handle on rough terrain. This is particularly applicable if the wheels are larger than average - this will provide you with more stability and make it less likely that your children will fall over or tip over.

The iCandy Wave is a popular choice. It can be used with an infant car-seat from birth and then transformed to a double buggy when your child is old. It's a lightweight option that is simple to push. It also comes with a bumper bar and a raincover.

Another option is the phil&teds sport which is future-proof as it's brilliant as a single buggy right from the start and then adjusts to accommodate 2 (or even three!) All of this fits into its small footprint. It is a clever 3-wheel design and the sling seat to provide greater maneuverability, stability and kerb pop.

This is the best double buggies to jog in with your kids. It features a lockable front wheel which can help you maintain control over hills or off-road terrain. It comes with a huge undercarriage, an adjustable handlebar, and soft suspension that gives you the most comfortable ride.

This is a light, compact option that folds easily with just one hand. It is perfect for travel. It's compatible with an extensive variety of infant car seats, and comes with a handy pull-out undercarriage basket that can be used to stash things to shop. It's a bit costly however it comes with several notable features, like its one-click folding feature and a host of extras, like a bumper bar or raincover.

Storage

Many people are amazed by the storage capacity of the triple wheeled double buggy. Certain models, like the Roma Atlas 3 Wheel Pram in Jet Black Atlas offer a generously-sized basket and 2 handy zip pockets in the hood to keep your phone and keys within easy reach. It's also designed to cope with a bit of rough terrain, so it's a great choice for family walks or all-terrain strolls.

Other models like the UPPAbaby Vista 2 offer plenty of space, and the ability to carry twins or a toddler and a baby (it utilizes their 'PiggyBack' board to enable this). It's the smallest side-by-side double in the market and it has some impressive technology, including games-changing LED lights on each side of the frame to improve security in low-light conditions.

The frame's clever design expands to accommodate a second seat, but still weighs just 11kg. This makes it simple to move and lift. It can be used with a car seat, carrycot or both.
